London | Artist Studio Visit with Dima Rebus

October 2025
London, United Kingdom

Frieze Connect Members are invited to visit the studio of Dima Rebus, whose solo exhibition was recently presented by Artwin Gallery at No. 9 Cork Street.

Dima is a contemporary artist based in London, working across painting, installation, and sculpture with a focus on material transformation. Best known for his large-scale watercolor works, Rebus incorporates custom chemical solutions and rainwater collected from around the world — integrating environmental data directly into his artistic process. His practice is inherently collaborative: individuals from across the globe collect rainwater on his behalf, making them indirect co-authors of the work. This approach reflects broader themes of connection, memory, impermanence, and human behavioral biology.

Functioning as both collector and archivist, Rebus measures and tests each water sample, noting its unique chemical makeup. His technique involves freezing the rainwater with pigments, then allowing it to melt slowly, creating organic textures that merge with figurative imagery. Variations in pH levels affect how the pigments disperse, introducing an element of unpredictability that is central to his method.

Artwin Gallery is a contemporary art gallery founded in 2012 by Mariana Guber-Gogova. The gallery supports emerging and mid-career artists from Russia, Central Asia, and the surrounding region, with a strong emphasis on cross-cultural dialogue and experimentation across media.

Representing sixteen artists - half of whom are women - Artwin champions curatorial collaboration, research-based practices, and the development of ambitious new work. Alongside its main exhibition space in Moscow, the gallery works closely with institutions, supports large-scale commissions, and participates in leading international art fairs, including The Armory Show.

In 2024, Artwin expanded its presence by launching a program at Frieze No.9 Cork Street in London. Its roster includes artists such as Evgeny Antufiev, Yelena Popova, Anna Titova, Tima Radya, Vladimir Chernyshev, Dima Rebus, Mika Plutitskaya, Olesia Lavrinenko, and others.
